Just outside of Tela lies the second largest tropical botanical garden in the world: Lancetilla Botanical Gardens. Established by the Tela Railroad Co. as an experimental planting station, in this garden tropical plants from all around the world can be found.

Cusuco is a cloud forest environment that is native only to Central America. It is unique because of the moisture dropped into the forest by the clouds that usually cover the mountains. The cloud forest habitat reaches its full splendor at altitudes of 1,800mts (6,000ft) over sea level.

The largest natural lake in Honduras, Lake Yojoa is located only 96 km South of San Pedro Sula on the main highway to Tegucigalpa.

The Macaw Mountain Bird Park & Nature Reserve is an innovative tropical bird reserve in Copán Ruinas that cares for rescued and endangered birds of the American tropics.

Formerly known as Punta Sal, Jeannette Kawas is a fantastic park in Tela accessible only by water. It is a unique reserve with abundant bird life, which is divided into two basic areas: The Península and the Lagoon of Los Micos. The Península is home to a tropical rain forest, and is inhabited by various interesting animals, the most visible of which is the howler monkey.

Located on the eastern end of the bay of Tela, only 12 km from the town, this unique area takes its name from the small mountain that dominates the area and comes out into the Caribbean: Izopo Mountain. The exuberant vegetation of this area, which is irrigated by the Plátano and Hicaque Rivers, is home to a large variety of wildlife, including tropical birds such as parrots and toucans, monkeys, alligators and turtles.
